Zen in Footscray

Driving across Footscray I noticed a newly built Buddhist temple situated on the edge of the Maribyrnong River, marked by an imposing 16-meter statue of Heavenly Queen -the seafarer’s deity. In the traditional Chinese architectural style it is rich in color and highly decorative with dragon motifs, carvings of gods and warriors. After ten years in development, the temple is now open to the public with plans for a garden, pavilion and hall yet to be completed. Address: 20 Joseph Rd, Footscray 3011.

Born in Geelong

Some families are fanatical supporters of one football team. George will no doubt be another Geelong supporter having been born in a premiership year and with a right hand punch like that, he may even be playing for Geelong FC in the future.

Sony Walkman Nostalgia

Double Exposure #4. Where does time go? A classic through the 80′s, 90′s, the cassette based Sony Walkman changed the way we listened to music and so began a new era in portable entertainment. This is my old Walkman and it actually still works today with the same old batteries that i left in there a decade ago. The cassette I found inside was “Teach Yourself Basic Japanese” – wow, a trip back in time. Whatever Japanese language i did learn has now disappeared all together from my brain but i can still remember the music of the time.

Photo Gift Ideas – Personalised Greeting Cards

Giving a photo greeting card is a fabulous way to add your own personal touch to birth announcements, Xmas cards or any other special occasion. One printing company that I use often is Moo.com who produce beautiful quality photo cards in small or large amounts to suit your needs. World Peace and Refugees

This is a picture of me from 1975 on my immigration papers.

The refugee debate is out of control and sad to listen to. Immigration to Australia takes form in a variety of ways. Whether it is through the family reunion program, skilled migration, permanent residency, seeking asylum or just plain getting married to a citizen, everyone is seeking a better life for themselves. For people seeking refuge, the system of off-shore processing or third country processing isn’t new. I know because i am a refugee and went through the same process. However in 1975, it only took 4 months from when we fled Vietnam to being granted arrival to Australia. The same efficiency doesn’t happen today unfortunately due to the sheer volume of displaced people around the world which leads to more desperation. The movement of people across the globe will continue as long as there is war. I don’t see world peace occurring anytime soon so I just hope that the world doesn’t turn its back on people who need help the most.
